About the
Project About the Center
Founded in 1981 in Washington, DC, the Center on
Budget and Policy Priorities has nearly two decades of experience with applied budget
and tax analysis. The Center specializes in analysis oriented towards decisions faced by
policy makers, with an emphasis on how policies affect low- and moderate-income people.
The Center examines data and research findings and produces analytic reports on a timely
basis that are designed to be accessible to public officials, nonprofit organizations, and
the media. (See "The Evolution of the Center on Budget
and Policy Priorities" for a history of the Center.)
In the United States, Center reports focus on a wide range of policies at both the
national and state levels. Through the Centers State Fiscal Project, the
organization has also developed expertise in facilitating the exchange of information
between state budget and tax organizations across the United States as well as in
providing technical assistance to these groups. The International Budget Project is one of
the Center's newest initiatives.
