| Established in 1983,
Consumer Unity & Trust Society started off as a consumer
protection organisation in Rajasthan. Since then it has been working
in several areas of public interest at the grassroot, national,
subcontinental and international levels. These activities have now
crystallised into four
centres: |
- CHD: The CUTS Centre for Human
Development, situated at Chittorgarh, seeks to empower rural people
especially women and disadvantaged groups of society through innovative
strategies of social action.
- CART: The CUTS
Centre for Consumer Action Research and Training at Jaipur works towards
enabling people, especially women and other disadvantaged groups of
society, to assert their rights so that they can achieve the right to
basic needs and sustainable development through a strong consumer
movement.
- Safety
Watch: An independent programme of CUTS
at Calcutta working on issues concerning consumers' health, safety
and sustainable consumption.
- CITEE: The CUTS
Centre for International Trade, Economics & Environment, established
in 1996, aims to be a high-level global standard institution for
research and advocacy on multilateral trade and sustainable development
issues.
ASSOCIATES
- SAWTEE: South
Asia Watch on Trade, Economics & Environment, situated in Kathmandu,
Nepal, is a coalition of several NGOs catalysed by CUTS in 1994, which
is involved in capacity building on economic issues in the South Asian
sub-continent.
- GENE
CAMPAIGN: Gene Campaign is a national level organisation
situated in New Delhi, India working in the area of genetic resources.
