Areas of Expertise CIPPEC was founded in 2000 as a think tank to produce critical and accessible public policy information that can be used by civil society and public institutions to improve policy choices.  CIPPEC focuses on five policy areas: education, health, fiscal issues, transparency, and justice.  In budget policy, CIPPEC works to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of expenditure, reform the intergovernmental fiscal relations system, and challenge closed budget processes.

ACIJ in a non-profit organization founded in 2002 that works to empower citizens with information about their social and economic rights and fight against discrimination based on income level.

Major Current Activities ACIJ is collaborating with the country's national audit office — the Auditoría General de la Nación (AGN) — to publicize important audit findings.  In addition ACIJ has integrated budget analysis into their human rights work by tracking allocations for education infrastructure.

ACIJ also has established the Community Legal Aid Center, which provides a common platform for residents, grass-roots organizations, social workers, and pro-bono lawyers to identify and address problems affecting the community, such as those relating to transportation, education, and health, water and sewage services.

RESDAL was formed in 2001 to conduct research on defense spending in Latin America.  Today RESDAL is integrated by a network of 250 members who come from the military, academia, or represent international governmental and non governmental organizations based in Canada, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.

Major Current Activities

Publication of the "Latin American Comparative Atlas on Defense" that serves as the first centralized source of defense budget information for the region.  The atlas answers the following questions: Which government entities spend defense funds?  What are the goals of defense spending?  And how are defense funds spent?
