Established in Arusha in 2000, Hakikazi is an economic and social justice advocacy organization committed to the development of practical knowledge and understanding of poverty issues and policies at local level.  Hakikazi acts as a catalyst; empowering marginalized people with the knowledge and confidence to have an effective voice with which to influence decisions affecting their lives and to achieve their civil and political rights at local, national, and international levels.

Major Current Activities
  • Publication and use of plain language guides as a tool in a process of poverty policy down-streaming designed to create knowledge, understanding, feedback, participation, and pro-poor change.
  • Poverty policy up-streaming of policy impacts and practice on poor and marginalized communities. 
  • Public education on development issues.
  • Participatory monitoring of poverty reduction strategy implementation in terms of budgets, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Promotion of accountability in natural resource management.
  • Capacity building to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
  • Participatory action planning to identify and exploit livelihood opportunities, taking into account the impact of HIV/AIDS.

Areas of Expertise Established in 1993 TGNP works in the civil society sector, focusing on the practical promotion and application of gender equality and equity objectives through policy advocacy and mainstreaming.  TGNP focuses on macro-economic policies and planning with particular focus on budget processes to address gender equality as well as women's empowerment through training, information, lobbying, and network building.  In 1997 TGNP and its FemAct partners started the Gender Budget Initiative (GBI) to promote the design and adoption of tools for gender mainstreaming of budget policies.

Areas of Expertise Hakielimu was founded in 2001 with 13 (Tanzanians) members. HakiElimu works to realize equity, human rights and democracy in basic education by facilitating communities to transform schools and influence policy making. HakiElimu works to influence policy making by stimulating imaginative public dialogue and organizing for change; by conducting critical policy analysis and advocacy, and by collaborating with partners to advance common interests and social justice.

HakiElimu’s approach focuses on creating space for concerned citizens to make a difference in education and democracy.
